About Nomad's World Gallery in Ukiah, California

How does such a wonderful gallery as Nomad's World ever come to be a glittering jewel on a quiet street corner of Ukiah, California?

It all began with Rita, a local girl who loved traveling to exotic places, especially shopping trips to Asia with Jackson, a family friend and proprietor of Ukiah's first import store. Jackson taught Rita how to travel with style, shop with joy and acumen, and make solid friendships with the artisans whose work he bought.

When Rita and Chance met they knew they needed a way to finance their shared passion for travel and adventure. They started small: sending home a few of these, a little of that, then more and more until their little shopfront was spilling onto the street. Nomad's World Gallery moved to its current location in January of 2009. Its spacious showroom allows them to offer larger things like tables, couches, chairs, and garden sculptures, as well as silver jewelry, silk weavings, wall art, Chance's photographs, leather goods, rugs and items of home decor.

Rita Mae Stewart
"There is more to life than the world you live in. Anything is possible." Rita Mae grew up in Ukiah, California and began her adventurous life early, acquiring a lifelong passion for travel. Rita went to Alaska in the summers, Asia in the winters, and came home to Ukiah during the spring and fall. Sharing their love of travel and fascination for other cultures around the world, Rita and Chance opened Nomad's World in 2003 as a small boutique filled with beautiful and exotic treasures from their journeys. After 6 years, Nomad's World expanded into a larger space that could accommodate home and garden décor and furnishings. Rita keeps Nomad's World Gallery running smoothly and continues to explore new corners of the globe to bring back and share the special, exotic flavors of each culture she visits, to create the spicy soup of life at Nomad's World Gallery.
Chance
"Never let school interfere with your education." Chance was born into a nomad's world: Saudi Arabia. Having international schoolteachers for parents, Chance's childhood was spent in Thailand, Kenya, and Egypt. (His high school graduation ceremony was set in front of the Great Pyramid.) His passion for photography began when, as a young teenager, he discovered the art of capturing a memory or provoking an emotion through a lens. Now you will find his work on the walls of Nomad's World Gallery. Chance loves hunting for treasures in markets, shops and village streets, making friends along the way and creating collaborations among artists. Chance and Rita believe bridging cultures reminds us about the common thread which connects and binds us all, regardless of our heritage.
